Do you need a permit for a bore in New South Wales?

 

Yes, in NSW a permit is needed for stock and domestic bores, including for spear pumps.

There is a fee of $893.27 for Stock and Domestic Bore Permits.

If you need a bore for commercial purposes such as irrigation, mining, aquaculture, feedlots, piggeries, poultry farms, golf/sporting areas, guest accommodation and water bottling then you will need a license.

Do you need a bore permit in Queensland?

 

In SE QLD in most cases you do not need a permit for stock and domestic bores. There are some exceptions to this such as land where there is a moratorium or land over the Great Artesian Basin.

The application for a Development Approval is done through the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.

You will require the following forms:

  • DA Form 1 – Development application details
  • Template 1 – Taking or interfering with artesian or sub-artesian water

The driller will submit to the Department of Environment and Resource Management all details of the construction of the bore once complete.

How should I lodge my application?

To apply for a bore in NSW, head to www.waternsw.com.au and click on the appropriate form to fill under approvals.

How do I apply for a drilling permit?

If in NSW, you can apply via the following link for a stock and domestic bore Water Bore Permit NSW

Once you have been sent your approval, please forward it to our team prior to the day of drilling. Once the drilling has been completed we will send you the completed form to send back to Water NSW.

In QLD we recommend you contact your water authorities to check if you need a permit for your property.

How do I know where to drill?

Alternatively, you can choose to get a diviner, and our team will drill where is recommended.

How much does it cost to drill a bore?

The cost of a bore depends on a few different factors:

  • Depth drilled
  • Type of drilling required such as Air or Mud Drilling
  • Casing used e.g. PVC or steel
  • Amount of grout/cementing needed

What is the process for getting a bore drilled?

Once you have confirmed you’d like to proceed either by email or clicking ‘accept’ on the estimate we send you, we can organise an approximate time frame to start your bore.

Please ensure we can get clear access to the site you want drilled, the truck is 25 tonne and the mast is high once it’s set up to drill.

Once the water bore is completed we will calculate the flow and head for the right pump selection, we will supply you with a bore report to show a pump company in order to get the right pump for you.  Alternatively, we can quote you a pump on the day and get it ordered to your address.
